Nutritionist – WIC Program

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a proud member of the Medisys Health Network, is a 404-bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and a Level I Trauma and Stroke Center. Since 1980, we have been a trusted WIC provider, growing from an initial caseload of 50 participants to over 10,000 annually. Our four WIC program sites offer comprehensive services, including participant-centered nutrition education, supplemental food benefits, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care providers and community organizations.

We are currently seeking a full-time Nutritionist to join our dynamic team and to provide Nutrition education and breastfeeding support to WIC participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group nutrition education and counseling to pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, including parents/guardians of infants and children.
  • Promote and actively support breastfeeding as the optimal nutrition choice for infants.
  • Participate in and promote special projects mandated by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), WIC and our Sponsoring Agency.
  • Travel to satellite WIC program locations in Brooklyn and Queens as needed.

Requirements
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply!
  • Fluency in Spanish, Bengali or French is preferred.
  • Experience in behavior modification, health education, wellness, fitness, or peer counseling is a plus.

Additional Requirements

Flexible schedule required, including two Saturdays per month and one late evening shift per week.
