VETO Trauma Counselor / Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Department of Surgery – Trauma Division
Salary Range: $90,000 – $95,000 (Depending on Experience)
Location: Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, South Queens, NY

Position Summary
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center, is seeking a dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to join its Violence Elimination and Trauma Outreach (VETO) Program. This Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) supports adolescent (ages 13–17) and adult (ages 18–44) survivors of interpersonal violence. The LCSW will deliver trauma-informed mental health services, crisis intervention, case management, and personalized support to patients and their families.

This full-time role reports to the VETO Program Manager and collaborates closely with the Trauma Medical Director,  and the Trauma Program Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patient eligibility for the program and evaluate psychosocial needs and risk factors using medical records and screening tools.
  • Provide trauma-informed counseling, crisis intervention, and case management to program participants and their families.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, hospital departments, and community-based organizations to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with hospital and departmental standards.
    Supervise peer counselors and social work interns as needed.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings, community outreach events, and professional development trainings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by program leadership.

Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Active New York State license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations affected by trauma and violence
  • Strong crisis intervention, counseling, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and relevant web-based platforms
    Knowledge of community-based resources and support systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole
  • Knowledge of urban youth culture and issues related to community violence
