Controller – Credit Union
Medisys EFCU

Medisys EFCU, originally chartered in 1972 as Jamaica Hospital Employees FCU, serves employees of Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and entities within the Medisys Health Network. As our institution continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within the credit union. This role requires a strong understanding of GAAP principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records while supporting the credit union’s financial health and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure accuracy in accounting data.
  • Ensure compliance with credit union regulations and financial reporting requirements.
  • Oversee general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Interpret financial data to identify trends, assess performance, and provide insights to management.
  • Handle tangible taxes, backup withholding, tax exemption status, and credit life & disability insurance reporting.
  • Process Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) calculations and assist the CEO with credit union investments.
  • Approve consumer and mortgage loans as needed.
  • Evaluate, process, and manage loan participations.
  • Evaluating, processing and maintaining all loans participations.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5–8 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, credit union operations, and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent attention to detail, leadership, and team management skills.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $85,000 – $100,000
Benefits: Full benefits package, including healthcare, PTO, and retirement plans
