Biomedical Engineering Specialist

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a 384-bed teaching hospital and Level I Trauma & Stroke Center, is seeking a Biomedical Engineering Specialist to support the safety, performance, and reliability of critical medical equipment used in patient care every day.

This role is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who thrives in a hospital environment and is passionate about ensuring life-saving equipment operates safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, calibration, and testing of medical equipment
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install biomedical devices across multiple manufacturer platforms
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, FDA, and hospital safety standards
  • Maintain accurate service records, documentation, and equipment logs
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, vendors, and manufacturers to resolve equipment issues
  • Order parts and coordinate external service support when needed
  • Support equipment uptime to ensure uninterrupted patient care

Requirements
  • Biomedical Technology, Electronics, Military Technical Training, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of biomedical equipment repair or clinical engineering experience
  • Strong knowledge of medical equipment troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in hospital-based clinical engineering environment
  • Familiarity with medical device cybersecurity and EMR integration systems
  • Experience with patient monitoring, imaging, or life-support equipment

Salary: $65K – $90K DOE
