Assistant Head Nurse – Emergency Department
Full-Time | Night Shift
$58.21/hour + Differentials | Full 1199 Union Benefits

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a member of the MediSys Health Network, is a 384-bed community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center. We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN to join our night leadership team as an Assistant Head Nurse.

This is a leadership opportunity for an accomplished emergency nurse who is prepared to help lead patient care in a high-volume, high-acuity Level I Trauma environment, where clinical judgment, decisive action, and strong team leadership matter every shift.

What You’ll Do

  • Help lead the clinical and operational activities of the Emergency Department during the night shift.
  • Coordinate nursing assignments and resources based on patient volume, acuity, trauma activity, and department needs.
  • Serve as a clinical resource during trauma, emergency, and other high-acuity situations.
  • Support patient flow, admissions, transfers, and efficient movement through the Emergency Department.
  • Monitor patient care and reinforce nursing, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide clinical guidance, coaching, and support to nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and the interdisciplinary team to resolve clinical and operational issues throughout the shift.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Current New York State RN license required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of Emergency Department nursing experience required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
  • Charge Nurse or other demonstrated Emergency Department leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity trauma environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $58.21/hour + Differentials
  • Full 1199 Union Benefits
