Recovering From Surgery Requires a Nurse Who Knows What to Watch For
The period immediately following anesthesia requires close observation, strong assessment skills, and the ability to recognize and respond quickly when a patient’s condition changes.

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide focused post-operative nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.

As a PACU RN, you will monitor patients through the immediate recovery period, assess their readiness for the next level of care, manage pain and other post-operative needs, and collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical, and nursing teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Assess and monitor patients throughout post-anesthesia recovery
  • Closely monitor vital signs, airway, respiratory status, neurological status, pain, and overall condition
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and intervene or escalate care appropriately
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered
  • Manage post-operative pain, nausea, comfort, and other recovery needs
  • Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Help ensure patients are safely transitioned to the appropriate next level of care

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Current New York State RN license
  • PACU, post-anesthesia, recovery room, or other relevant acute-care nursing experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
  • Effective communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute-care environment
