We are currently seeking passionate Pediatric Social Worker for immediate full-time opportunities within our new inpatient Pediatric unit.

Hours: 8:30am – 5pm, Monday – Friday with weekend and holiday coverage on a rotation basis.

A Pediatric Social Worker in the hospital provides emotional, social, and practical support to children and their families during their healthcare experience. This role involves assessing the needs of patients and families, brief counseling, and helping them navigate medical, emotional, and financial challenges. Pediatric social workers collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care and advocate for resources and services that improve patient outcomes. They also assist with discharge planning, connect families to community services, and provide crisis intervention when needed. The goal is to enhance the overall well-being of both the child and their family in a hospital setting.

Additional duties will include:

  • Collaborating with other professionals to evaluate patients’ physical and/or mental condition and to assess their discharge needs
  • Acting as an advocate for patients to resolve crises and provide appropriate interventions
  • Investigating suspected child abuse or neglect cases and initiate referrals to State Central Registry as necessary
  • Completing biopsychosocial assessment of patients to gather information about their prior functioning, support system, and evaluate their current functioning to determine a safe discharge plan.
  • Referring patients to community or social service programs to meet their complex needs

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Social Work. MUST HAVE New York State Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Hospital/Medical experience preferred but recent new grads are welcome. Knowledge of medical terminology a plus. Experience with Electronic Medical Record System a plus. Understanding the roles of the healthcare team Exceptional interpersonal skills Understanding of the psychosocial aspects of illness and health Knowledge of community-based organizations and resources for discharge planning Superb written and oral communication skills Strong crisis intervention and short-term counseling skills Excellent time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
