Flushing Hospital Medical Center is a 293-bed, not-for-profit Queens, New York based teaching hospital. We are conveniently located in one of New York’s most culturally diverse communities, and we offer a variety of services, including a Bariatric Surgical Service, Ambulatory Care Center, Women’s Health Center, Wound Care Center, and Chemical Dependence Unit. We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Pharmacy for an immediate full-time career opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In consultation with the Director of pharmacy, the Assistant Director coordinates staff and management functions to ensure consistency in the provision of high-quality pharmaceutical services. Assist and supports the Director of Pharmacy in planning departmental goals and objectives .Directs pharmacy staff as necessary and offers advice and guidance in conducting  special operations and administrative matters or problems.

  • Effectively recommends, establishes and maintains departmental policies and procedures.
  • Instructs and disseminates medical and departmental policies and procedures to pharmacy staff and ensures their implementation.
  • Monitors the activities of pharmacy services and takes appropriate action to ensure efficient and effective operation of the department.
  • Controls utilization of departmental resources and ensures the department operates within budget constraints.
  • Assists in preparing written performance evaluations and reviews evaluation with staff as needed.
  • Maintains a current awareness in the field of pharmacy, especially in the area of institutional pharmacy practice.
  • Monitors the conditions within the pharmacy, relative to the physical appearance, safety, morale and performance.
  • Assists in the coordination of pharmaceutical services with those provided by other departments. 
  • Acts as a liaison between pharmacy services and other institutions, agencies and organizations.
  • Utilizing departmental measures or indicators continuously assess current departmental services and functions in order to reduce costs and/or improve services. Performs other related duties required, which may include the duties of the professional, technical and supportive staff. 
  • Manages scheduling/payroll and assignments for pharmacy staff, as needed. Serves as a preceptor for College of Pharmacy student APPE rotation. Engages students in assignments that benefit the department.
Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of an approved five/six-year college of pharmacy, an advanced degree in pharmacy is preferred.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a hospital pharmacy in a pharmacy management capacity.
  • Must be licensed as a pharmacist in the State of New York and maintain current registration.

SALARY: $160,000-$185,000
