CENTRAL SERVICES EQUIPMENT AIDE

SHIFTS: 8 am – 4:30 pm | 11 am – 7:30pm | 3 pm – 11:30 pm

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 424 bed fully accredited community based teaching hospital and level I Trauma and Stroke Center.  We provide general medical, pediatric, and psychiatric emergency services, ambulatory care on and off campus, ambulatory surgery and a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services. We are seeking Central Services Equipment Aides for immediate full-time opportunities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Selected candidates will retrieve contaminated supplies and deliver sterile supplies, maintain inventory, and prepare sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations, and procedures.

 

  • Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
  • Examining supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Testing and reporting issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
  • Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
  • Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
  • Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
  • Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
  • Preparing and delivering necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
  • Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.

Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates

Requirements
  • A High School diploma or equivalent and Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution.
  • One-year hospital-based experience
  • Strong attention to detail, vigilance, and meticulous care on the job.
  • Good judgment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to handle fragile equipment.
  • Technical skills and familiarity with sterilization techniques.
  • The ability to work well in a team or independently.
