Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 424 bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and level I Trauma and Stroke Center. Since 1980, we have been a WIC Provider and have over the years consistently and successfully grown annually from an initial caseload of 50 to over 10,000 participants. We are a top tier WIC program provider and our (4) WIC program sites offer a variety of services including nutrition education, supplemental food benefits, breastfeeding support, referral to community organizations and social service programs, as well as activities that encourage and support a healthy lifestyle. We are currently seeking an experienced Nutrition Supervisor to assist the Program Director in the implementation of the Special Supplemental Food and Nutrition Education Program for Women, Infants and Children.

DUTIES: Responsible for staff competency, professional development and supervision of the Dietetic Intern Program.

  • Assist Program Director during USDA, New York State Department of Health and internal audits.
  • Train and supervise Qualified Nutritionists and Support Staff.
  • Implement daily operation schedule to ensure efficient patient flow, staff workflow and timely completion of tasks.
  • Evaluate charts generated by the Nutritionists and Support Staff for accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures outlined by the Local Agency and the NYSDOH –WIC.
  • Assist in planning, conducting and evaluating participant-centered nutrition education services.
  • Assist in developing, conducting and evaluating trainings related to the nutrition and health assessment process for the Local Agency staff.
  • Act as a resource person for information on nutrition and health related issues/topics for all staff.
  • Assist with the implementation of procedures to ensure the resolution of problems identified through performance improvement process, quality assurance surveys and routine WIC operations.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate, Registered Dietitian (RD)/ Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) or Masters degree with specialization in nutrition/public health from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college/university. Course work must have included basic or general nutrition, nutrition in the life cycle /human nutrition, community nutrition or maternal and pediatric nutrition, nutrition assessment.
  • Two years experience as Nutritionist in the program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) or federally funded community nutrition food program with at least one year supervisory experience.
  • Able to multitask, work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to comply with a flexible schedule, which includes one late night per week (Wednesdays-10am-6:30pm) and two Saturdays per month.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Bilingual, preferred (Spanish)

SALARY: $72,000.00
