The Department of Microbiology at Jamaica Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full-service laboratory that performs approximately 1.5 million tests annually to help detect, diagnose and prevent disease. The department includes the clinical divisions of Anatomic Pathology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology and Phlebotomy. The laboratory is fully computerized and boasts such technologies as voice recognition, barcoding of specimens and electronic remote reporting of results. The clinical laboratory operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are currently seeking experienced Microbiology Technologists for immediate Full-time opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform basic, routine and advanced diagnostic procedures for the isolation and identification of microbial pathogens from clinical specimens.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instrumentation, as well as the physiological conditions affecting test results.
  • Evaluating new products and instrumentation and performing quality control measures.
  • Performing and reporting assigned analytical tests, including high complexity tests on biological specimens.
  • Performing visual inspections of specimens to determine acceptability and or identify abnormal/unusual results.

 

 

 

 

Requirements
  • B.S. in Medical Technology Or Biology
  • 1-2 years prior Microbiology experience required.
  • Valid NYS Education Department Medical Technologist License
  • AACC, ASMT, OR ASCP or equivalent certification (desirable)
  • Broad background in computerized instrumentation
