Blood Bank Technologists play a major role in the delivery of patient care by providing the physicians with diagnostic testing as well as making available the safest blood or blood products for transfusion.  In performing their job, Blood Bank technologists must adhere to regulations, such as current Good Manufacturing Practices, AABB standards, FDA, JCAHO, CAP and New York State regulations regarding transfusion medicine.

1. Must be able to work under pressure, multitasking. 

2. Review and monitor Quality Control with objectivity.

3. Investigates discrepancies or failures in any system that renders blood products.

4. Performing competency assessment of Blood Bank staff.

5. Assists in the validation of new instrumentation and new methodologies.

6.  Able to perform special projects.

Requirements

Requirements: An individual with a strong knowledge and experience in Immunohematology, reliability, punctuality, respect, good character, and judgement.

Required Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or other science.

Required Licenses/Certifications: NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist
