The MediSys Health Network and its member hospitals, Flushing Hospital Medical Center and Jamaica Hospital Medical Center are teaching facilities. We are dedicated to continuing education and research, and our various Graduate Medical Education programs provide and support scholarly activity.  We are currently seeking a Director of Academic Affairs & Designated Institutional Official for an immediate full time career opportunity on our Queens campus.

As Director of Academic Affairs & Designated Institutional Official you will report to the Chief Operating Officer for administrative operational issues, and the President and CEO. Effectively ensuring that the Medical Center maintains a high-quality academic environment for Graduate Residency and Fellowship Educational Programs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • You will have direct oversight and responsibility for coordinating the quality, appropriateness, and evaluation of graduate education programs.
  • Implementing  “General Requirements” common to all residency training programs;
  • Developing and updating “GME Policies and Procedures” as needed to ensure that FHMC and JHMC are exercising reasonable supervision and appropriate oversight of Medical Education programs.
  • Establishing mechanisms to monitor and review the quality of educational programs.
  •  Creating and sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and faculty, and a collaborative working environment with educational team members. 
  • Participating with Department Chairs and Program Directors to review and recommend residency program budgets.
  • Collaborating with Department Chair and Program Directors to effectively ensure and maintain appropriate accrediting criteria, faculty appointments, resident selection, and other program requirements.
  • Serving as institutional liaison for “Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates” and its sponsoring program;
  • Coordinating and ensuring that Program Directors carry out their responsibilities with regard to medical education matters;
  • Preparing Medical Board  program  reports and annual reports for  Board of Trustees
  • Reviewing and maintaining educational contracts.
  • Representing and serving on committees in all matters related to Medical Education.

 

Requirements
  • Master’s degree required, Doctoral degree strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in Graduate Medical Education, with considerable academic management experience, preferably in a proprietary school setting.
  • Fiscal and personnel management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact successfully with academic as well as business and regulatory personnel.
