Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 404 bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma and Stroke Center. We are currently seeking an experienced  Chief Engineer with excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple hospital projects.  Our ideal candidate will possess a High-Pressure Boiler license from the NYC Dept of Buildings. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the entire Engineering Department, from approving project designs and assigning engineers and technicians to ensure that all safety and structural standards are met throughout the completion of each project. Setting long and short-term project goals, negotiating with vendors and clients, ensuring that projects stay within time and budgetary restraints.

 

OTHER DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Working with the design team to develop safe, efficient, and effective projects that will fall within the budget.
  • Evaluating and calculating project costs including material, labor, and time expended for each project.
  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts with vendors and clients to ensure project cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborating and consulting with CEO or COO to approve designs and budgets and when needed make necessary adjustments.
  • Coordinating engineering teams, assigning and delegating short and long-term goals for successful completion of project plans.
  • Monitoring and reviewing safety standards to ensure worksite safety.
  • Reviewing safety standards for finished products.
  • Ensuring projects and undertakings stay on budget and within the projected time schedule.
  • Managing the engineering team and overseeing the training of new employees.
  • Allocating resources effectively including personnel, materials, and time.
  • Analyzing data and drafting reports for review.

                                                        

Requirements
  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a unionized hospital engineering/plant operations environment and the supervision of staff, construction, utilities, building, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • NYC High-Pressure Boiler Operators License (REQUIRED)
  • NYC Refrigeration Machine Operators license is required.
  • Certified Energy Manager preferred.
  • Current knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care which includes ASHRAE, ASHE.
  • Five years experience in the management of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to include oversight of reports, staffing, and productivity for work order completion and Preventative Maintenance (PM) completion to meet the needs of the facility.
  • PC Proficiency in Excel, Word, and working knowledge of engineering apps required.
