Assist the Program Director in the implementation of The Special Supplemental Food and Nutrition Education Program for Women, Infants and Children. Primarily responsible for setting objectives, planning, staffing and directing the local agency breastfeeding promotion and support activities at all sites. Implement and manage the Enhanced Peer Counseling Program. Train and re-train staff on the breastfeeding component of the program. Conduct public health detailing visits in the community. Collaborate with and develop cross-referral systems with the sponsoring agency and community organizations.
Enroll participants on the program and conduct participant-centered nutrition education/counseling sessions for individuals and groups, as defined by USDA regulations, NYSDOH WIC Program Manual (WPM) and Local Agency Policy and Procedure Manual. Must use proper etiquette and exhibit outstanding customer service skills at all times, especially while interacting with participants, colleagues, visitors, vendors and supervisors.

Requirements
Baccalaureate or Registered Dietitian (RD) or Masters degree with specialization in nutrition from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university. Current CLC (Lactation Counselor Certificate) or IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) preferred. Course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester credit hours with a grade of C or better in the areas of: Basic or general nutrition, Nutrition in the life cycle or human nutrition, Community nutrition or maternal or pediatric nutrition, Nutrition Assessment, AND Two or more years of WIC experience in the Local Agency (LA). If recent prior WIC experience from another agency in New York, one year of experience in the local agency is required.
