ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING 

NURSING AND PATIENT CARE SERVICES    

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 404 bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma and Stroke Center.  We provide general medical, pediatric, and psychiatric emergency services, ambulatory care on and off-campus, ambulatory surgery, and a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services. We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing for a full-time, flex night shift opportunity in our Nursing and Patient Care Service Department.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Assistant Director of Nursing (A.D.N) is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for the coordination and delivery of nursing care.  

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the A.D.N is also responsible for facilitating optimal patient flow through the institution.  Collaboratively working with both internal and external interdisciplinary staff to achieve favorable patient outcomes.  Responding to daily occupancy bed demands to develop and implement actionable steps to maintain acute bed access for patients within the hospital’s delivery system. 

  • Participating  in evaluation and improvement of nursing care provided to patients 
  • Collaborating with the Chairpersons of assigned clinical areas in developing specific policies and procedures. 
  • Participating in multidisciplinary care rounds. 
  • Representing the nursing department in interdisciplinary committees. 
  • Planning and implementing adequate, safe, and cost-effective staffing in collaboration with DON’s, CNMs, and Staffing Associates. 
  • Facilitating performance improvement in assigned clinical areas and serves as a consultant on nursing issues, 
  • Participating in establishing nursing standards. 
Requirements
  • BSN Degree required / Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred 
  • Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of New York 
  • Current certification in BCLS and ACLS 
  • Progressive clinical and management experience. 
  • Effective interpersonal skills and proven leadership ability. 
  • Must be available to work alternate weekends.
