Assistant Head Nurse – ER
Emergency Department (Level I Trauma Center)

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Head Nurse to support leadership within our high-volume Emergency Department, delivering critical care in one of the most demanding clinical environments in Queens.

 About the Role
As Assistant Head Nurse in our Level I Trauma Emergency Department, you will serve as a key clinical and operational leader, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, rapid-response patient care.

You will partner closely with the Nurse Manager and multidisciplinary teams to drive clinical excellence, staff development, and efficient unit operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily Emergency Department operations and patient flow
  • Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, and training
  • Coordinate shift assignments and staffing coverage
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing staff performance
  • Provide hands-on clinical leadership during trauma activations and critical events
  • Ensure compliance with trauma protocols and emergency care standards
  • Prepare and assist with incident, accident, and investigatory reports
  • Foster a culture of patient safety, teamwork, and accountability

Requirements
  • BSN required (MSN preferred)
  • Active New York State RN License
  • Minimum 3–5 years RN experience in a Level I Emergency Department required
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive leadership experience required
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to lead in high-pressure environments
