The Sergeant position is a front-line position within the Security Department and includes the following responsibilities:

Responsible to address security incidents that occur on the tour
Always maintain a professional, mature demeanor
Thorough understanding of front-line supervisory expectations
Must lead by example
Ensure officers are following all hospital rules and procedures
Ensure officers act professionally at all times
Continuously assess personnel objectively
Ensure scheduling of officers is adequate for the tour
Delegate tasks when appropriate
Expected to demonstrate informed decision-making skills when unexpected incidents occur.
Ensure officers receive proper training
Collaborate with clinical staff on tour to ensure security personnel provide adequate support
Provide liaison with law enforcement during tour, when necessary
Ensure leadership is notified of significant events.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High School/GED Graduate.
Some college preferred.
Must have 3+ years’ experience as a security supervisor or operational experience in law enforcement or military settings.
Experience in a hospital environment; or experience in other complex security environment, ie schools; or experience with Security systems, access control systems preferred.
Must have a NYS Security Officer License, including 8 hour and 16 hour course.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Suite.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Must be capable to write concise, comprehensive reports.
