Responsibilities include: • Organizes and directs the daily activities of the Hematology Laboratory. Responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance. • Handles troubleshooting of equipment, QC inspections and reporting. • Ensures laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies, which includes monitoring of QC, completing annual policy reviews and annual competency assessment of staff, • Is responsible for payroll scheduling and maintaining timecard system for employees • Recruits, interviews and make recommendations to fill personnel vacancies • Completes new staff training as well as meeting proficiency test standards for all required analyses. • Interacts with other departments and participates on Hospital committees as it relates to laboratory functions. • Directly supervises all phlebotomists • Monitors appropriate logs to make sure all draws are being performed in a timely manner • Monitors and supervise the drawing, ordering • Handles troubleshooting of Phlebotomy Complaints & Occurrences • Maintain and organize phlebotomy statistics • Trains or supervise the training of all phlebotomists • Monitors and log all sick time utilization and provide a year to date monthly report • Monitor and provide a monthly order error rate report • Coordinate staffing issues and procedural issues with PM supervisor • Monitor turnaround by phlebotomists • Ensure phlebotomy service personnel maintain a positive client/patient-focused attitude • Accounts for disciplinary action as needed. Consults with HR on disciplinary issues • Ensures efficient and effective departmental operations

Requirements

B.S. In Medical Laboratory Sciences. M.S. Preferred NYS Department of Education License Previous Laboratory Supervisory experience or a minimum of 6 years working in Hematology
