OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN

The Division of Ophthalmology at Jamaica Hospital offers a full range of medical, diagnostic, and surgical services. From annual eye examinations to surgical procedures, our Board Certified, fellowship-trained Ophthalmologists and support staff are dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye disorders and ophthalmic conditions. We utilize the latest diagnostic equipment and a full range of lasers to treat a broad range of conditions:  In addition, our Operating Room is equipped to perform modern cataract extractions, glaucoma surgery, oculoplastic procedures, and pediatric ophthalmology procedures.  We are currently seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician for an immediate full-time career opportunity. 

 DUTIES: 

As an Ophthalmic Technician you will be responsible for:

• Interviewing patients and documenting ocular and medical histories.
• Performing a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information including, but not limited to, intraocular pressures, basic motility, visual fields, PAM and BAT tests, A-Scan ultrasonography, and fundus photography.
• Assisting physicians during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparations, and documentation.
• Administering topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by the provider for testing or treatment.
• Performing OCTs, Visual Field testing, IOL Master and Pentacam.
• Obtaining visual acuity testing.
• Preparing and positioning patients for diagnostic tests and procedures.
• Assisting physicians with patient education pertaining to treatments prescribed.
